OK, so my Croatian boss called me a lazy gypsy when he was angry. I went to ask a Scottish lady and she said it was a "bohunk (European) thing" and not to pay attention to him. Was he insulting me? What does this guy have against gypsies? Please explain I think this may be the start of problems. (later he stomped his foot and yelled....kind of like Mussolini).

It's called an "ethnic slur". Guess what, your boss is a bigot.

I would take that as an insult, however he could have called you much worse. Name calling in the work place is not acceptable at all.

I would say that if he is European, stamping the foot and yelling in Mussolini, he was most probally very frustrated ond swore.

Have you been doing your work properly? If so you have nothing to worry about. I would speak to your boss when he calms down and ask him why he called you a lazy gypsy?

I think he is referring to you as not working or your work is all over the place.

Good Luck

I would interpret gypsy as meaning - moved around a lot. If could be he has had many jobs, keeps moving on to a new one, or he has moved from town to town a lot. However, the problem with the word gypsy is that it means more than one thing. Traditionally nomadic, usually found in Eastern Europe but quite prevalent all over Europe, called the Roma. They possibly originate from India, and were called Gypsies a long time ago by Europeans who thought they were Egyptian. There are also other travelling people who are not Roma but get lumped in with them. Traditionally Roma and other travellers have sold small items door to door.

Does your boss know you are calling him a Croatian behind his back? That may be pissing him off.
