Ok - I don't know the first thing about doing macrame but I remember that this older lady who used to babysit me at our apartment in Melvindale, MI when I was 4 or 5 had made me this cute purse. I lost it and have always thought about it now and then. That was 25 years ago and this is even after a closed head injury I had 14 years ago to the day.

I remember how mystified I was by that purse, and still am. I remember how lucky I felt when she made me one and I remember how disappointed I was when I misplaced it (being a little kid you know I wasn't that careful with my stuff!) The bottom of the purse was made of the lower third of a plastic dish soap bottle. I'd love to at least see something like this online. I wonder whatever happened to that sweet old lady...

I saw those in the 70s but they were made from crochet. I never saw any done in macrame. The one someone made for my mother was made from the bottom of a bleach bottle and they had made evenly spaced holes all around the top edge using a hole punch and crocheted a beginning row with heavy crochet cotton using a cluster or three double crochets in each hole and a chain stitch between each cluster. After that, they just crocheted round and round in double crochets and ended with a scalloped trim and ran a drawstring through the 3rd or 4th row down to close it.
