Ha ha, the age-old question. Ok, here is my take:

This is only possible when the guy is not attracted to the girl. For the girl, it is always possible, because girls are less visual and less likely to develop feelings based on physical attraction alone. Sure, there will be truckloads of girls out there that think it is possible, and this is because they have no idea what the guy is thinking. The girls are basing their opinion on what the guy is saying and doing, so if he is behaving himself, the girl thinks everything is cool.

Someone earlier made the comment that you could test the theory by asking a guy friend if he wanted to hook up with you. This is an excellent test, and will almost always prove my theory. If the guy is attracted to the girl, then it will always be possible for him to switch from "friend" mode to "lover" mode, assuming that he things the girl would be receptive to it. If he is not attracted to her, then he never runs the risk of trying to switch to "lover" mode.

I think it is the natural human instict to be attracted to a male or female at first. But after you are introduced and aquainted with one another you may discover that having a friend of the opposit sex will be very fun and loving and caring. You may find you'll be sensitive to the others feelings more and also you can learn a lot of good relationship advice from the other sex best friend. My best friend and I have had a relationship for seven years and still going strong.

My best friend is a woman. People think it's impossible because there's generally some sexual attraction when a man likes a woman. The sexual part is nice and fun. If it doesn't scare you, you can enjoy it with the rest of the things you like about her - and that doesn't mean you have to be physical, just enjoy that extra spice in the air - it doesn't hurt.
BTW, my best friend is married. I think she's gorgeous and I've never been physically closer to her than kissing her hello and goodbye on the cheek. We talk about anything and everything and I think she's perfect - I love her all to pieces.

of course, my best friend is a guy and it's not my fiance. guys and girls tend to make good friends bc they rely on each other for advice of the sex. i find it very helpful having a guy as a bestfriend. i've never been attracted to him enough to date him, i don't know if it's the same for him but i recommend having a best friend of the opposite sex, the on ly time it may be a problem is if you find a jealous boyfriend, matter of fact my fiance has a female for his best friend

yes.... my best friend is a guy. he has been my bf for five years. i talk to him every day. if i don't see him we talk on the phone. i have a husband and kids. He has a girlfriend, for four years. My kids call him uncle. i couldn't imagine my life with out him. The thing about the guy wanting to have sex with you well a true bf would never act on it, because a good friendship means a lot more then a good f@!#.

Yes, a guy and a girl can be best friends if they are mature adults about being best friends. Why they can be friends because it is always good to have a male as a soundingboard.

Sure, I have known 2 guys that I am good friends with. It's nice cuz I can call them to get a guys perspective on things going on in my life. It is really only possible to remain friends if neither expects anything else out of the relationship...then it gets messy.
