Anything between 1980 and 1984 would be a close run thing, but I'd plump for 1980.
Pink Floyd at number 1 saw the year in.
The first 2 Jam number 1 singles (Going Underground & Start)
Blondie, David Bowie, Abba, The Pretenders, The Police and The Specials all had number 1's, 6 months of a mod revival with Secret Affair, The Lambrettas, Merton Parkas and others all hitting the top 30. Madness banging out singles left right and centre. Tale end of Disco, the start of the new romantics and electronica, and the unfortunate demise of John Lennon saw a belated number 1 for him to end the year.

1993 to 2000 these are the years that music of any kind reached its peak cause downloading free was low, def jam made a few billion making Russell the newest billionaire at this time. biggie and 2PAC was killing the rap charts, plus the bad boy & death row beef sold alot cause fans were picking sides. but gansta rap made chart sells rediculos you will never see record breakers like that again.
