I have my tongue pierced 3 days ago and my tongue has gone very white. I think it has been caused by using listerine but would like to hear from anyone with any advice on how to get rid of the white stuff and what is the best thing to use to keep my piercing clean and healthy. Thanks guys

Rinse your mouth with Bactine , that white stuff is a yeast build up.

My tongue did this when i got it pierced. I was the same as you, what are you cleaning it with? I was recommended to use mouthwash but switched to salt and cool boiled water and it was gone within a few days. Also if you dip a cotton bud into the salt water and wipe it around the piercing site (top and bottom side) and along the bar it helps. Good luck ) p.s its plaque, and nearly 3 years after getting my tongue done i will still get it, especially on the bottom ball (and before anything is said my teeth and tongue are brushed twice a day) :)

Don't rinse with Bactine, I'm pretty sure that you're not supposed to have that anywhere near your mouth. Try brushing your tongue, if you just got it pierced it may be a little sensitive but do it anyways. Brush very gently around the piercing until it heals a little more, then you will be able to brush a little more vigorously. You should brush your tongue every day especially if your tongue is pierced.

The first thing you should do for any oral piercing is to get some ice..This will help keep the swelling down. As far as the discoloration goes, it sounds like you may have a mild case of Thrush, which is in fact a yeast infection (eeewww!!! In your mouth even!!!!....LOL). This type of minor infection in the mouth is somewhat common. The best type of mouthwash to use is alcohol and dye free (NOT LISTERINE!!!)...I always recomend BIOTENE mouthwash to all of my customers..It was originally formulated for people who were going through chemo-therapy to keep their mouth and gums from drying out. It's also antiseptic, but uses enzymes instead of alcohol to keep bacteria and other germs in check...you can use it as often as you need to without worry of irritation.. You should rinse after doing ANYTHING with your mouth including:
eating
drinking
smoking
touching your jewelry
or letting someone else touch your jewelry.

If the "whiteness" on your tongue doesn't go away after a few days of using BIOTENE, you may need to consult with your family physician about an antibiotic treatment. Thrush isn't usually serious unless it gets out of hand in which case it can lead to more severe infection of the throat...Painful!!!
I hope this information was helpful!!!

i have had mine done for 6 years now. if its white stuff from around the piercing it will go away in about a week or 2. if its your whole tounge just keep using the mouth wash or try salt water. just dont swallow it. also, if it is your whole tounge, when brushing your teeth brush your tounge very carefully.

take a q-tip and dip it in listerine and clean the white stuff up with the q-tip. I did that and it went away

you can either use a very soft toothbrush or go to the store and buy what is called a tounge scraper it is a flat plastic thing that gets the bacteria off your tounge..if that does not work call the person who pierced your tounge.
