just curious.. cause 500,000 cameras.. seeems......... like insane overkill/paranoia by the ppl in charge

23,000?!?!!
london is a HUGE city, i'm guessing?
`wonders who the bozos are who designed it.
should've chopped it up into several cities.. i'm guessing you simply have alot of zip codes for different parts of the city.

In the first "A to Z" there were 23,000 streets.
I suspect the 500,000 camera's are in the whole of Greater London ie everything within the M25

Actually, London is a lot of smaller cities. Think of it as a lot of smaller villages in years grown by that have all grown over time and are now one big city that people now know as London.

Also, its not that dense. Most buildings are 2 - 3 stories tall, and most people live in older style houses that have been split into smaller flats (apartments). So given that 8 million + people live here, its not surprising how many streets there are.
