Actually, contrary to popular belief it may not be healthy to completely quit smoking during pregnancy if you are a heavy smoker.
Your doctor may suggest you cut down drastically, but quitting altogether may actually a cause more serious complications with the pregnancy and your baby then having a couple of cigarettes. I personally quit, but I know some women who had to cut down rather then quit due to stress and advise from their doctor.

I know everyones first thought is QUIT!! Its terrible for the baby. While that is true, there are other things to consider. If you are a heavy smoker you need to discuss this with your doctor.

My mother, quit while pregnant with me, started up again when I was 5. When she became pregnant with my brother (8 years later) she was a heavy smoker and her doctor advised her to cut back to maximum 5 a day but advised AGAINST qutting entirely as it would/could cause her to havepregnancy induced hypertension, stress etc

Be aware that while pregnant smoking does increase your chance of miscarriage, birth defects and low birth weight baby

Please speak to your doctor about this.

No, it's not bad at all. I quit right before I found out I was pregnant (I was already pregnant, I just didn't know it yet). Quitting is one of the best things you can do for the health of yourself and your unborn baby. I was a smoker for over 8 years but was able to quit over a period of less than a week, cold turkey. If I can do it, anyone can!

It is not bad to quit smoking if you are pregnant but quite the oppisite. If you are worried about the discomfort of withdrawl from cigs you should know that it is temporary but the gift of clean pure air to your child is worth it.
