Doomsday Book (also called the Domesday Book)

After William the Conqueror became King William I of England, having beaten the English at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, he wanted a survey done of all the assets and possessions in the land he had just conquered. This survey was like a census and listed every town, building and farm in the kingdom along with how many sheep, cattle, etc all the landowners held. It was completed in 1086.

I am sure this was the start of the magna Carta census. After the Battle of hastings in 1066 when William the conquer's men fired the arrow that struck down and killed King Harold. Thus the start of the Norman kings of England.

No every one else was right the Doomsday Book The Magna Carta was came later .....King John.

I expect you are referring to the Domesday book. William had a register made of all the property in England and who owned it. Presumably to be able to tax people according to their means. The book still exists and you can buy copies of it. I have one somewhere

Depends whether you mean census, there was no proper census till the end of 1800 's and the enumerators couldnt spell properly therefore names were not taken down right
