Its not a good sign.

Set your router to ignore them and not to respond.

Ping is part of ICMP which echoes to machines that you are there. This could be a normal part of an application. You should also know however that if someone was trying to hack, ICMP's would be there starting point. Although it can't do you any harm directly, it does let them know you are there. Once that they have established your IP address they may try to 'port' scan and see what else you pc is 'listening' on. Don't get to paranoid but do:-

1) Check you're files and folders are not shared.

2) Also see if your firewall will only allow incoming requests it can match with previous outgoing requests (stateful inpection)

3) Look through your FW logs and try to decide if anything suspicious is happening periodically.

4)Switch off your pc when not in use.

Don't get too hung up about it though

The actual ping won't do any harm, a bit like some one looking at your car. They are seeing if it is there. However once they know what is there they may try and break in. Set your firewall and router to not respond to pings.

A ping just lets some know that your IP address is active.
There are attacks called a ping flood, that can cause a denial
of Service (makes a system very slow or non responsive).

But no compromise

That is usually someone testing if they can connect to your computer when they are setting up the sharing link. If it is a computer that you want to connect that is okay if not then probably not
