Yes, it's quite certain now that the pilot of the plane was NY Yankee's pitcher, Cory Lidle. The plane was registered to his name and his passport seems to have been found at the feet of the building that the plane crashed into.

Yup this was also confirmed by ESPN. Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle was the pilot of a small airplane that crashed into a 50-story Manhattan condominium, killing Lidle and three others, according to the New York medical examiner's office.
