you should never delete a folder by yourself unless it's on My Documents and you have created it or store it yourself.

If you want to free the hard disk the right way, use Add/Remove Programs on the control panel and delete unecessary programs. If you're in doubt which to delete, just check the how often it's used and then decide the ones to be deleted. Also check the capacity of the programs and see how much space you can free.

Consider buying an external hard disk, they are extremely useful and economical.

If you don't know what folders can be safely removed, you don't know what folders are useless, and if you do know what folders are useless, then you know they can be safely removed. So what is this question about?

As a rule, you should not go round removing folders, especially from the Windows directory and the Programs directory. Basically, if you did not create the folders yourself, you should be very cautious about removing them, very cautious.

And why do you "need" to delete folders? No room?

dont touch anything in "windows" Documents and settings" or "Program files" you WILL hurt your computer.

I reccomend using ccleaner, from file-hippo (use google) its one of the first results . this will clear your temporary stuff as well as your regestry, and speed up your computer. check the startup things for unnescesary stuff, and after cleaning, scan for issues and do them all, dont worry about backing up, it wont hurt anything
