Not your typical comedy but since Hollywood adopted it and put it in the comedy grouping, you'd have to go with "La Vita e Bella" ",or "LIfe is Beautiful" as it was called here in US. (1997), closely followed by the best American comedy film of the 90s- BY FAR - Forrest Gump.(1994)
