My wife's left foot is so swollen it looks fake, she has had a bunch of test done, all came back normal, she does not have any pain in her foot but she does have to get two different size shoes, and she has gained a tremendous amount of weight since she had our son 4 years ago and cannot loose it no matter what she does. A little help please

If it is in fact edema, you need to get her to the doctor ASAP. Edema is a problem that is a result from other underlying problems, such as the lymph system, kidneys and other serious issues.

Here's a website that asks about foot swelling along with any other symptoms: http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/sym/foot_swelling.htm

Perhaps she has other symptoms that can narrow down your options.

Your wife needs to elevate her left foot as often as possible and wear a TED sock on her left leg. She can be specialty fitted at a medical supply store. Also, massage therapy does wonderful things for swelling. Her doctor can refer her to outpatient physical therapy services for massage treatment to her affected leg and foot. To me, just by what you have said, it sounds like a circulation problem, or possibly lymphedema and she needs to get on it right away and not waste another minute. Also, it is imperative she gets into a weight loss program and an exersize program before the swelling becomes severe and makes her leg deformed permanently.
She can get into a weight loss program thru her local hospital with a dieticians support. All she needs is a referral from her doctor. Offer to go with her to an exersize center or even walk with her around the block every day then increase the distance gradually. Weight will sit there unless you get exersize. I have nursed for 12 yrs and its amazing how much weight a person can lose with the proper guidance and support.
People who say they cant lose a pound come to the hospital and drop 8-10 lbs in 10 days. Nothing is impossible.

You need to get a second opinion NOW! If you live in a small city or town... get to a big city and go to the ER and if you can't afford it there are many charities or financial places right in the hospitals that will take care of your bills for you before you leave. Don't delay on this matter at all. This could be her life or quite literally her limb. I wish you the best of luck!

Go to see a different 'competent' doctor, perhaps a neurologist.

This is not normal, weight gain or not.

Take care of the body, it's the only one a person has.

good luck
