AMD... though I have to disagree that they are over priced... Any hardcore gamer building his own gaming computer will tell you to get AMD... if someone says Intel.. run....

So my friends and I had this disscussion about building an awesome computer here are the specs... of course you will notice that it has AMD not Intel....

- Coolermaster Case
- X-Connect 500W Power Supply (very sexy)
- AMD 4800 X2 Duel Core Processer
- Asus Mother board with 2 PCI- Express Slots
- 2gb Cruicial 5300 Ram
- 250gb Western Digital HD
- Backlite Keyboard, Logitech Optical Mouse

thats an awsome tower, but it's missing the best graphics card ever...

go to newegg.com and buy 2 GeForce 7950 GX2's

GX2 is the 1gb version of the GTX, those run about 1k each but alternativly (and what my friend is doing) is buying 2 7950 GTX (512mb) and putting those in.

In a month I will be getting a computer with two Opteron 250s and 8GB of memory. For the money, there is nothing better. Running AMD vs Intel, AMD always out benchmarks. They run cooler. AMD has fewer reported problems. When has a new Intel chip not been reported to have a whole lot of problems?

I haven't actually seen a 5.6GHz Pentium D, so I will assume your mean 3.6Ghz. I have looked at benchmarks:http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html
and they confirm what I suspected, the AMD in this case is better, it peforms better in almost all of the benchmarks. As for price. the 4200+ is about $190 while the PD 3.6Ghz is about $350. Seems like an easy decision.

Amd use to be the best cpu's for gaming but now both company's have similar quality cpu's with Intel slightly in the lead with there dueo series

amd also use 64 bit which faster when useing programs but you must have a 64 bit os like vista

I like Intel better, though many say AMD is better for gaming and tweaking. I've never had problems with my Intel processor and I built the computer myself. I think the most likely reason people report problems is that they probably did something wrong.

athlons are better aas are all amd products however like all amd products they are also over priced. both are 64 bit processors and therefore suffice for gaming. however multitasking is vastly superior on the athlon and if you plan on tweaking or overclocking the althons a better idea...in most side by side comparisons that ive seen athlon outstrips PD in almost everything.

Let me make it simple for you...
AMD=Great value for money + Perfomance - Buy if you don't have money to waste.
INTEL=Great "Name" brand... Not better than AMD in Performance at all!!!!! Buy if you have money to waste!

PS: It is VERY important that the CPU is installed properly, with good quality heat paste between CPU and heatsink! If this advice has been followed, the user will NEVER regret his choice!

AM2 series are very powerful processors but it depends on what do you want your computer to do?
In logical processes intel is better but for gaming AMD is better.
