By increasing the the health and thus life expectancy of humans are we not just setting ourselves up for future problems. With more people on the planet, more jobs will be needed, more homes will be needed, more food will be needed, thus leading to more deforestation and use of the planets resources. Shouldn't we therefore be focusing money and research on improving quality of life rather than longevity! Furthermore, with more people on the planet we will become more stressed due to overcrowding and overcrowding is more likley to allow diseases/viruses to spread more rapidly, thus killing off more of human life!!

OK, first of all the United States could handle 10x the population and still not be as densely populated as Japan. Second we produce more food in the United States than we need. Third an increase in population actually lowers the standard of living, because the standard of living is based on the GDP in relation to population... however with a larger population there is more demand for goods and services which creates jobs, so the free market will find a balance for the larger population. Finally we humans are a creative bunch and we will create new technology to deal with the problems of the future (even if we are the cause of those problems). So have faith and enjoy your longer life expectancy!

oooh you really are addressing the difficult questions. The humanity of mankind is expressed in the ways we take care of each other. During the second world war, a section of the german society was basically written off and destroyed, and in certain parts of the world that is still happening. We are proudly humanitarian and do all we can to help within our budgets. You are part of the modern world and may one day be grateful that you saw your great grandchildren colonise the planets. Or you may not. Either way, you will be human, and long for the continuation of your offspring and their little ones. Dont worry. As you can see, mankind gets thinned out by the Hand of nature fairly regularly.

Well, the short answer is that people are short sighted. New medical science is able to improve longevity, and many people are either afraid of death or merely dread it. To them, any means of prolonging life is good. Also, it is easier to improve longevity than life style, believe it or not. Improving lifestyle requires a great deal of sacrifice on the citizen's and on the government's part, which many people do not want to do. It is easier and makes people happier to hear that longevity is being improved.

Is that the new communist manifesto according to the Clintons ? Or did the drive-by media come up with that one ?
If it's doom & gloom it's a liberal talking . Some of the rest of us prefer positive vs. negative . If the democrats choose to sit in a corner and die - what a revolting developement that would be .

Good question and I fully agree with you. I suppose the answer for some will probably depend on their spiritual belief or lack of spiritual belief. I think it must be very difficult for an old person to see all their friends and some family die before them and you would wonder what is the point of going through all that. And as for cryonics ....mad mad mad.

It is a survival instinct to want to live as long as possible so that is why we try to do it.
