it mainly depends on your age, children tend to lose theirs and pick up a new one much quicker, even in your 20's. after that it becomes more difficult. i know someone that went from south africa to the USA 16 years ago and some words she still says in a south african way while mainly her accent is american. i tend to pick up accents very easily which is quite annoying for people who have to listen to me

I don't know.I lived in Ireland for 13 years and never really picked up an accent. It was more their slang that I picked up.When I talk to people I say the word like alot, deadly, how's the craic when I am getting some one.Although when I came back home, people asked was I from England, and once from South Africa(I am Australian),The only accent I hear is an Australian accent when I speak.with a few drinks in me,I can sound a little Irish, but I think it has some thing to do with letting my guard down when I am drinking.

That relies upon on how previous you're. There are neural connections that are shaped from delivery - the extra you repeat a undeniable action the extra that connection or pathway gets cemmented, your accessory is a ingredient of that repetition. the style you shape and pronounce words and sentences is repeated daily from the day you are able to talk. So by making use of the time you're around 10 to twelve those connections are properly and particularly set. An occasion of a youthful newborn... pals of ours moved right here to Australia and that that they had a newborn over right here. They lived right here for 6 years and moved decrease back to the states. 7 years on the newborn is now 12 and to an Australian he has an American accessory yet to an American has an Australian accessory. So a combination between the two. occasion of a youthful person... My brother-in-regulation moved to London whilst he replaced into 22 and lived there for 5 years. And whilst he moved decrease back he had lines of the accessory (like ending sentences in 'Yeah'). He might say "you prefer to circulate to a action picture yeah?" with an exceedingly basic accessory - yet a month being decrease back and that had all dissapeared. occasion of an Older person... My grandparents got here out from Scotland whilst they have been the two 40. And to the day they died (40+ years later) you ought to nevertheless hardly comprehend them. i theory they have been asserting 'The wee Gettles' till after my Grandma's funeral i found out she were asserting 'the wee women'. so they in no way misplaced it or addapted. So once you reside someplace else for a protracted quantity of time you do adpot community accents somewhat in order that human beings can comprehend you - it is not approximately posing or faking - its approximately getting bored to death having to repeat your self. yet to the locals you will continuously have an accessory. And if/and once you come back domicile your loved ones and friends could have the skill to %. up on it yet you will lose it somewhat speedy.
