Babel Tower

According to the narrative in Genesis Chapter 11 of the Bible, the Tower of Babel was a tower built by a united humanity to reach the heavens.

Both the writer of Genesis and Berosus place the Tower of Babel somewhere in Babylon.

Babel Tower is a multi-storeyed ziggurat. The tower was most likely used as a place of worship.

According to the narrative in Genesis Chapter 11 of the Bible, the Tower of Babel was a tower built by a united humanity to reach the heavens. Because the hearts of men were said to be inherently evil and disobedient, they were striving to make a name for themselves instead of worshipping the God who created them. Because of this open defiance, God stopped their efforts by confusing languages so that no one could understand each other. As a result, they could no longer communicate and the work was halted. The builders were then scattered to different parts of Earth. This story is used to explain the existence of many different languages and races.

It was built as a tower and was meant to reach to the sky so that the king would be as powerful as God. This is the point that he confused the languages (ie Babel) and the tower was never completed.

The Tower of Babel is usually thought to refer to the great ziggurat of Babylon, which is part of the temple complex devoted to Marduk, the city's patron god.

Following on from other answers the tower was the result of over self importance by man so God struck mankind with Babble forever more (or speaking in different tongues) for their arrogance.
