It depends on how long your hair is. Very short hair, like a crew cut, will only cover a few weeks. Extremly long hair can show drug use years ago. The sensitivity of a hair test depends on how much the tester is willing to spend. The most thorough, and hence expensive, procedures can detect extremly tiny traces, and will not be confused by hair products. The cheapo versions will only detect chronic drug abuse, and will get false results from highly procesed hair. I hope this helps. good luck!

It depends on the drug.
Scroll halfway down this page and find your drug on the chart.

On Hair drug tests... (from wikipedia)

Hair drug screen

Hair testing is quite accurate and can go back 6 months or longer, showing any controlled substances used in a sort of timeline. As hair grows out, any drugs used are encased in the hair shaft, so the longer the hair, the longer back in the individual's drug history the lab can detect. Most legitimate testing facilities, however, only use hair within about 3-5 cm of the scalp, and discard the rest. This limits the detection history to about 90 days, depending upon the rate of growth of the individual's hair. Some people attempt to circumvent this through shaving their heads. In the absence of the required amount of hair on the scalp, body hair can be used as an acceptable substitute. Additionally, for pre-employment hair testing, the inability to obtain a sample may be grounds for not hiring the individual.

A hair sample will go as far back as the hair does. If that specific hair is five years old......so is the trace of anything in it.

Hair dye does not affect the outcome at all. Dye does not change DNA. Anything you took is encoded in the hair. One time use can be seen, but it is faint. It depends on the scientist testing the hair and how hard he looks at it. Constant use would show up instantly at first glance.

A hair cut can change things. If you were clean for a bit (a month or two) then cut your head bald, you would be cleared when your hair grew back.

Wrong don't believe shampoos advocates or the advertising it won't help, it doesn't effect whats in the hair shaft only whats on the outside, cut your hair and stay clean is the only way to clear a test as its new hair.

when doing a drug test using hair. the length or your hair is the factor. each centimeter of your hair represents 1 week so the shorter your hair the less weeks they can go back.
