Maybe she is allergic to formula? Try soy formula or pre-digested formula (yes, there is such a thing). Maybe mix a little rice cereal or banana babyfood into the formula. You might have to cut the nipple a little bit or get one with a bigger hole, but make sure it's not too thick or she could choke.

i would give her some warm sweetened water and take her to hospital for a second opinion. She is too young at 6 weeks old to have diarrhoea for 3 weeks. Is she losing weight.?? As long a she doesn't lose any weight then maybe its nothing serious. But Doctors are fallable....

Get a second opinion, while you wait, your neice is becoming more and more dehydrated and it's not doing her any good.

Take her to the emergency room at the hospital to get a second opinion if need be but don't just settle for 1 doctors conclusion, it wouldn't be the first time a doc has mis-diagnosed someone.

It could just be a simple allergic reaction to the formulae that she is on or it could be something much worse, she is so young that her immune system isn't completely developed that you don't want to take any chances.

is she breast fed? does she have a milk allergy? You need to get a more supportive dr - not to give meds but to give further information, support and advice.Perhaps see a homeopath? Make sure she has plenty of fluid (usually not needed, but some cooled boiled water may be helpful to replace lost fluid). Cranial osteopathy is very good for young babies and will prob be able to tell you why she is having these problems. It doesnt hurt her or have any bad side effects at all.

Good luck with her - she is very young and it must be a big worry.

This will not hurt her.

Boil some regular rice until the water becomes very cloudy. Mix the water with just enough juice to where it taste better and she will drink it. Give her as much as she will drink. This will coat her stomach and intestines. It will stop the diarrhea and add water to keep her from becoming dehydrated.

I fought the same thing with my son. Once we got it stopped, he was able to gradually start taking his formula again. Sometimes they just have a hard time tolerating their milk at first.

Are the Doctors, prescribing Pedialite ?? They had better make sure she does not dehydrate. Many babies die from Diarrhea. Make sure she is not loosing weight. In Newborns, their stools will look like Diarrhea, but it is not. It can be very foul smelling too. As long as she is maintaining her baby weight, she will pull out of it. Newborn baby bowel movements, look like diarrhea, so try not to mistake that with diarrhea. Good Luck.

She is probably just having a little tummy bug. If she fusses alot, then maybe she is uncomfortable. At 6 weeks, their bowels can be a little runny but you can try the newborn pedialite. make sure the bowel is a yellow or brownish color. If she has been throwing up morethan the average spit up, call the doctor. I am sure she will be a o k!

I would say, keep in close contact with the child's pediatrician. The child should be receiving something like "PediaLyte" to drink...if ok'd by the doctor to avoid an electrolyte imbalance from the fluid loss. Be very careful with this child take her to the emergency room if necessary...esp. if you think she's dehydrated.

If her mother is nursing it could be something she is eating. If baby is on formula try switching (milk based to soy or soy to milk based). Baby may have a food allergy or intolerance. Be sure to have baby's mom and/ or dad talk with the pediatrician before messing with what she is eating.
