I have a store and am in the process of setting up either an oscommerce or zen shopping cart. With either of these carts, my customers can register. What I would like to do is set up a rewards program so my customers can earn points for purchases to redeem for free gifts. I can keep track of it the old fashioned way on paper and mail a rewards letter but ideally I would like to do it online. I could enter points as accrued and they can login to see how many points they have. Is this possible with either of theses carts. If not, how would I do this?

You would need some sort of database that will help you store this information. Normally your database customer table would show how many times the customer has ordered from your site. With this information, you can calculate each time how many times the customer visited and made purchases on your site and then adjust the free rewards according to this information. If you have a shopping cart already programmed, then I am sure you are storing this cart somewhere in your database. You should also add a column on your table that will keep track of their rewards.
