yes expecially when its a song that u can relate too and you kinda respect them alittle more cause u think they feel the same way but then you find out there not even the ones who wrote it.. its like ohhh man u stink! granted they might sing it well but its soooooooo much better when they wrote it from there own expericance

Yes, it's definitely better if the singer wrote the songs as well, but only if the songs have good lyrics. I listen to a lot of country music, and sadly enough, a lot of the singers don't write their own lyrics, and the lyrics are DUMB! On the other hand, Kenny Chesney (a fave of mine) did write his own lyrics for one album and I wouldn't say it was one of his better albums. Some musicians just shouldn't be writing their own lyrics, but props to those that do!

No i don't first because someone who writes songs may be just talented in that one part of creating music. They feel like they have something important to say and that they would like to express it through music, but they don't have the best voice to attract people's attention. Plus you can't put down a singer because they have talent and decided to put it to good use.

I lose respect for singers that sing songs that they dont even "feel." Its one thing to have a nice voice, but another to feel the music and get the message across.

Not in particular.
I choose singers for their ability to sing.
Hopefully, they choose their songwriters for their ability to write.
If everyone could do everything, there would be no reason to become good at something...because everyone else could do it!
I might GAIN respect for someone who has the talent to do both, but I don't lose respect for someone who only has one of those skills.
All I care about is that the song is well written, and then well sung.

Honestly, I think that is musical snobbery. Some people can sing, but they cannot write music. Does that make their singing any less enjoyable? You could argue that there is nothing special about a brilliant pianist simply playing tunes written by Mozart or Holst. Sometimes it is just nice to hear the music, regardless of who wrote it.
What I have a problem with is people like Ashlee Simpson, who can neither sing, dance, nor write music. In fact she is really only famous because of her sister and because she is fairly reasonable looking. People like her suck and people that like people like her are stupid.

Singing and songwriting are two different skills. The singer/songwriter is a relatively new phenomenon in music. While it is more impressive to be both, I don't think it is bad to do just one or the other.

Hey stupid people.
Thers a differnce between SINGER and SONG WRITER
I dont lose respect for people who can ONLY sing.
Look at Britney Spears she's one of the best singers in the world and she doesnt write her own material.

It's better!
Singers that don't write their own music are totally disposable.
Legends can't be replaced!
