Your teacher was correct. As a parent, I can have control of my childs speech, and their liberty. In fact, doing so is one of my responsibilities as a father. School news letters are owned by the school and therfor are subject to the school administrations control.

The Constitution applies to how the Government deals with people, not so much how people deal with people. I have every right to control what is said and what subjects are broached in my home. I can limit the language my children are allowed to use, limit their liberty (curfew, off limit places and people they are allowed to hang with), compell them to give a statement to Law Enforcement. A childs rights are exercised thorugh the parents or guardians who are responsible for them.

Have you seen the stupidity coming out of the mouths of so many on the news? Everyone has the right to free speech. What you don't have is the right to speech that infringes on the rights of others. You can't go into a theater and yell "FIRE!" There are other examples. Basically, you can say whatever you feel like. In civil courts, if you can prove that someone else's speech hurt you, you can sue. Really, if the Government wanted to arrest people for stupid speech, a lot of people would have already been arrested. Same goes for speech that they just didn't want to hear. This leads me to another point. You CANNOT force someone to hear your speech. They can always walk away. You can't go into someone's house and just start talking. I hope the Justice Department gets on the ball to show how some reporters leaking classified information to the press have hurt U.S. soldiers and American citizens. They should be arrested or sued for putting me in danger.

There can be no freedom of speech unless there is freedom of thought, and there can be no freedom of thought unless there is unbridled education. There can not be unbridled education unless there is structured learning. There cannot be structured learning unless there is training, there cannot be training unless there is discipline. More often than not it is necessary to tell young people to shut up and listen. For what they have to say just might have been said before.

Where freedom of thought is there is liberty, and age is no respecter. Indeed and old man may be set in his ways, and a young person may quote the party line, neither thinking for themselves.

No matter how free your thought it is of no use unless it can be scrutinized. When it is printed, then it may be scrutinized, it maybe applauded or ridiculed, or more probably ignored because people are more interested in getting their point across than in learning, and if they are interested in learning it is usually to see that people agree with them

And if you are saying speak for yourself. Well, of course, I am.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the Constitution and Bill of Rights apply to all US Citizens AND to some degree to anyone in the United States. For example, even if you are not a citizen you still have the right of habeus corpus.
