If this is true, which I haven't confirmed this, it is sad any time we lose a sports figure, regardless of what team and how good he was. Corey Lidle a pitcher for the New York Yankees had a family. People who loved him and if he did die, there are some sad loved ones who need our prayers. Regardless of whether or not you like the Yanks, Lidle was a decent person and ball player. Remember we need to consider sports as a secondary and that the person should come first, then the game. Say a prayer for his loved ones and mourn accordingly.

I just checked CBS/Sportsline, there is a report out there but it has not been confirmed.

At 5:09 PM ET ESPN has confirmed the story.

Extrememly Sad

What is even sadder is that we would be saying John Doe died today what are your feeling if Corey Lidle wasnt an athlete. It is really sad but if a joe schmo died it should be just the same.

UNBELIEVABLE!

I was waiting on line at the post office, where they had this news story on TV. It's incredibly ironic that he just signed with the Yankees and ends up getting killed in NYC.

One of his former officials at Philly went out to diss him in the media, saying that he's not focused on baseball, all he likes to do is gamble and fly around in his plane.

Unreal.

The airplane was REGISTERED TO LIDELL.. THere hasnt been an OFFICIAL REPORT YET TO PROVE THAT IT WAS LIDELL (as of 4:56 pm).

Even if it WAS CORY LIDLE, I don't like the Yankees and I think they are overhyped. I'm gonna treat this as if it was some unknown farmer from a 2nd rate state like michigan who slammed into the building.

I'm gonna turn off the TV and play Xbox 360 - acting as if nothing happened.

It is unfortunate to hear of anyone dieing. I always thought he was adecent player even though he went over to the Yankees. But even us Red Sox fans have hearts. My prayers will be with him and his family in mind.
