Find the place where all your sims saved data is and copy it to CD, DVD or an external device. Then copy it back in place after you've restored and re-installed The Sims 2

Several ways you can do this and I have done it as well.

Go to My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2
rename that last folder to another name
--I used to rename it 'playing The Sims 2'

Restart the game and a new folder will be created. It will be called "The Sims 2"

So when you have time to back it up, you can SAVE the folder that has the new name: playing the Sims 2

And when you want to use your old settings and your old downloads again, then RENAME the 'practice' folder to 'practice The Sims 2' - then rename your game folder from 'playing' -- just delete the name "playing" from the front of the name.

Or use which ever names you want of course. ONLY one folder can be called "The Sims 2" - that will be the one that loads when you play. There is normally no problem doing this unless some of the files are 'sticky' in your computer memory, then it won't let you rename the folder unless you reboot. So just reboot and rename if you need to.

The alternative way to do this is just make a guest account on your computer or give it a guest name like OTHER Sims -- then log on as the other account when ever you want to play the mint version of the game again.

Log onto your regular account when you want to play your fave families again. The advantage to this is that you don't have to keep renaming the playing folders if you switch between mint condition and the favorites a lot. I use this method mostly now, when I want to test something in the original family ---- OR if I want to build something for upload that will not have downloads and hacks in it. The Guest account or the alternate accounts are very useful. Of course, you must have plenty of room on your computer to build new test accounts. At least 350 Megs of space if you do not download stuff to all the different user IDs.

Never done it with the Sims 2, but with the original Sims if you un-install it it actually prompts you to save all your save-game data. If you do this you can save the information in a way that it will understand after you have re-installed. Easy!

save sims on cd rom or floopy or attach as email to self and then re-install.

if an online version, should be where u last logged in, if a download do the above.

Or alternatively, do not do a full system restore, that provides u with a option as to what programs to re/un-install
Hope this helps

The others have it right but I do have one suggestion. don't use CDs.
Buy a flash drive or jump drive {you'll need one several GBs}
their small and actually easier than CDs or floppys and they copy files faster than burning to CD.
