I have a dell ( optiplex GX260 ) and just installed a fresh xp service pack 2, but when its all done, the screen resoultion is stuck at 640x480 ( no other options given ) and it does not seem to see the ethernnet connection ( it used to work just fine, and linux sees it fine also, and it works).
Any ideas?
A friend told me i might need drivers, if so what do i do?

Thanks

you don't need to remove sp2. you just need to get to anothe computer to download the appropriate drivers for your machine. If you have the original disks that came with the pc one of them has the correct drivers you are searching for.

if not go support.dell.com click on drivers and downloads and enter your service tag, which should be on a barcode on the back of your pc.

You do need drivers. The default WinXP graphics drivers, for example, will not take full advantage of your graphics cards actual capabilities. Go to the manufacturers website and see if they have the drivers available to download.

Your friend is right! When you reinstall windows you reformat the hard drive! You also dump all of your system drivers! You will need to go to your PC manufacturers website to download these drivers!

Right Click and change the settings. Or you should get the drivers. Buy a new computer with pre-installed windows.
