Ok its a shelock holmes story.
a young woman contacts holmes.
Her sister died under mysterious circumstances when she was due to be married. The mysterious circumstances are the sound of a whistle, the smell of cigars and a metalic clunk noise.
the young lady visiting Holmes is also due to be married and she is experiencing some of the same phenomenon. shes a bit nervous.
The lady and her sister (when she was alive) lived with their uncle Dr. Grimesby Roylott. he's a bit like father jack from father ted... drunk and surly and unsociable. he also has a cheetah and a baboon on his land which he has trained.
Roylott asked the young lady to sleep in her sisters old room, adjacent to his saying that her room was being redocorated or something.
it turns out that he is training a snake to kill her (like her killed her sister) because if she gets married half of his fortune would go to the lady's new husband... at the time women didnt own property of their own - it was left to their male relatives. The snake he's training is the "specled band" of the title. holmes sweeps in and saves the day - the snake kills the uncle instead and the young lady marries her fiance and live happily ever after.

i read that last year 4 school. all i really remember tho is tht the speckled band is a snake w/ bands on it. get it? speckled band? yeah, good luck with that. the story was very confusing
