I have sharp pain in my back, under my right shoulder blade, for almost 2 years now, on and off. I've been told it's muscle inflammation, but nothing has seemed to work. I really want to find out exactly what's going on, and how to fix it. I've been going to a chiropractor for a few weeks now, and it started to feel a little better, but it's hurting again. Acupuncture might be my next option.

inflammation of a muscle in that area is usually due to really poor posture. Probably why a chiropractor could help a little, but if you don't change your posture, there isn't a whole lot anyone can do long term. You might see a sports medicine physical therapist for ideas on improving your posture.

muscle should not be damaged this long, surely?
Chiropractor + exercises + perhaps ibuprofen
but definitely exercises

perhaps it is your driving position, or your bed pillows are too high. A lateral-thinking suggestion - put your computer mouse on the left instead of the right.

A MRI probably would show muscle damage. But the best test would be a EMG (Electromyogram). It tests muscle/nerves responses when stimulated.

try taking ibuprofen. if it help quite a bit then it is probably just an inflammation problem if it barely helps then you should request a MRI. Also talk to your DR about other possibilities.
