don't try. go to the dealer it is a spacial scan tool for airbags autozone does not have it you will have a hard time finding parts and a air bag could hurt or kill you if you dont know what your doing

Please stay away from the parts stores for the warning lights! Even if they can retrieve the code they can't do anything for you.

Airbags are dangerous to tamper with, unless you know what you are doing, do not let anyone (unless trained) or tamper with the airbag system in your car. It (the car) is telling you that there is a problem, and that its important enough for you to be aware of it. It could be something trivial like a burnt out light bulb or even an erroneous sensor reading but it should be checked.

Disabling or hiding the light would be... (STUPID). We are talking about something that can possibly save your life here. Why not just drive without a windshield and no seat belt?

Besides, it is illegal to tamper with the airbag system in a car, is a life or injury really worth what only seems like a lot of money?

Call other shops tell them what you got, and ask if they can fix what they find. If they find a code and say it's got to go to the dealer, you're gonna get charged the hundred bucks as soon as you pull it into the dealership anyways so why not just take straight there. Most dealerships will not accept other shops diagnosis and will start all over again once your car is taken for repairs.

getting a code will not help you solve the problem.once you access the code, you have to find out what cause the code.it could be a bad wire, wire connection, burn fuse, bad computer,or bad component. all these hints, you will need a manual book. once the problem is fix ,you need a scan tool to clear the code. if you can not afford the dealer price, try independent repair shops.IF YOU DON"T HAVE CAR REPAIR EXPERIENCE,YOU MIGHT GET HURT OR KILL IF THE AIR BAG BURST .please use common sense

Unless you can find a garage that can do that, then you're limited to your dealer.

The car is pushing 10yrs. I'd just have the light disabled (or leave it on) and drive slower and more cautiously.

most auto part stores like autozone or advanced autoparts will do a code retrival for free. alot of parts stores do. or check at your local vocational school. sometimes they will have students do it for free for practice.
