How about homo-fastidium (squeamish disgust) or homo-abdico (rejecting or disapproving)?

You are right while there are some who are homophobic, who fear homosexuals, and I do know some*, people use that expression on me and it doesn't fit.

(*I was at a training program once and an older lady was given a roommate at the hotel that was a lesbian. The Lesbian found her a girlfriend one night and the older woman told about how she pulled the covers up and literally shook with fear over the things going on in the next bed. So it does sometimes fit some people.)

I think it depends on the person. Some deep down may fear they are homosexual and actually be so. I think other guys are just totally creeped out by the thought of another dude hitting on them. It's not out of fear, but disgust, as a sexual thought of another man grosses them out.
I grew up where being gay is not acceptable. Most guys were major homophobes, and I can't imagine that deep down they are all gay. People say it's not natural, and biologically speaking that's true. The attraction is real enough. It's just unfortunate that something that doesn't harm others is still unacceptable today.

Well, the term phobia does not necessarily mean you fear something in the common sense like guns or something. It is what the phenomena represents to you in your head. I have a few phobias cause I suffer from an anxiety disorder and they rarely have to do with the things themselves but what they represent in my mind. Ok, and now enough with the bullshit.

You're right, they needed to come up with a word for it that could be used in multiple contexts. Can you imagine watching a TV show and hearing a lawyer say to a judge "Your honor, my client is not homo-grossed-out."

Homophobic is usually not just being grossed out by the act...I think it's how you deal with it. Whether by distancing yourself from it or showing gays disrespect because of their sexuality is homophobic to me.

Straight guys thinking that sex between two guys is gross is completely normal. I'm gay and I think having sex with a woman would be gross...and that's kinda why I'm gay...yet I don't dispespect or distance myself from women. There's a big difference.

Any dictionary I've checked has "irrational fear or hatred of homosexuals", not just fear. So, yeah, people are DEFINITELY homophobic. that said, there are also people who are literally afraid. If you believe what some of the religious right would tell you....I don't necessarily blame people for being afraid. I would be too if I believed half of those lies.

More often than not, something that is referred to as "homophobic" (whether it actually is or not) could more accurately be described as heterosexist.

You should be asking yourself, "Why do I care so much?"

If it grosses you out as you imply, why think about it at all? So, you find yourself thinking about it and it makes you sick? Why so strong a reaction do you suppose?

I wonder what exactly you're thinking about that upsets you. Do you imagine two men together, doing unspeakable things? What things are they doing exactly, that make you sick? Holding hands? Kissing? Do your thoughts go further than that? Why should any of those things bother you if you don't have any interest in them?

People who are really straight just shrug their shoulders and never think about it. Deeply self-hating, closeted homosexuals do however, react as you suggest, with disgust and loathing. These same fags try to find solace in religion, or hide behind jobs that cast them in a straight light (e.g. Republican Senators), or post thinly veiled hate messages on public bulletin boards.

Be careful, you're being watched, you know.

I have a chronic condition known as homo-nausea. I am not afraid of homosexuals in the least, but the very idea of them turns my stomach.

In fact, whenever I see two men holding hands in the street, I immediately begin vomiting. This is very aggravating if I am with my girlfriend.

My doctor said the only cure for this is to look at large amounts of lesbian porn. And not the gross short-haired lesbians. The good-looking lesbians who actually look like women.

Many men (I can't speak for women; in my experience they've been a bit less homophobic) fear homosexuals because it throws off the gender roles we are so used to. Men are generally thought to be the pursuers in courtship so the idea of being the pursued is somewhat upsetting. Besides, it's a lot harder for a woman to rape a man than it is for a man to rape a man.

I "think" you should use a DICTIONARY to understand terms.

Homophobia:

1. Fear of or contempt for lesbians and gay men.
2. Behavior based on such a feeling. *from the American Heritage Dictionary.

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

I think you misinterprid the focus of the phobia. Most homophobics are actuall "afraid" that they themselves might he homosexual. That's why they are grossed out, or lash out, because subconciously they question their own sexual orientation and are conflicted. They "hate" homos because they "fear" they might be one.
