could be a cold. does anyone in the house have a cold? they can easily catch it. is she near a window/draft? if so move her cage to a warm, draft-free, quiet area. is there any sneezing, nose running, watery eyes? is she eating/drinking normally? if it's a cold she'll need to see a vet for antibiotics. in the meantime u can put vicks near her(not reachable) cage---will help her breathing. warm milk with a little water & honey may help. any weight loss or shivering?

do make sure u arent using cedar or pine bedding as mentioned earlier. it can lead to breathing & skin irritation. make sure u have carefresh or aspen---no oils r in them. r u keeping the cage cleaned well in the pee area? there is a thing called aspergillis fungus that makes the bedding turn black and this can get in their lungs & kill them.

any changes to her area/diet/ anything?

well i am sure you took great care of it but hamsters die at 2 to 3 years if they are taken care of well.
BUT
It could be due to your bedding. What beddings are you using? Pine beddings are very bad for hamster as it affect their lungs and cause allergies and lots of side effects too. Also, though some beddings are considered safe, but some hamsters are allergic to them.

I really think you need to take it to the vet.
it could be somthing bad like a problem inside.
I really hope all goes well.
Good Luck

hey. dnt no how to say this but my hamster was the same after three years and hebut i hope your hamster wasn't very active and i knew that he was going to pass away soon. but dnt listen to that your hamster just may be tired or something but just try to expect the worst in the next few weeks other wise you will get a real shock when you come to find your hamster.........you know. but if not then great your hamster is healthy and maybe he just wasnt playful that week. but i hope your hamster is well and good luck with her/him. xx

Hamster's life expectancy is only 2-3 years. If his/her breathing is rapid, shallow, or very hard...then she's reacting to either pain, fear or pregnancy. Do you have loud music, or flashing lights...These may scare her. Could she possibly be pregnant? Carefully monitor her water and food intake. Has she put on weight, are her nipples more pronounced? It may just be a matter of time. Or she may also be dying. IF the above don't apply try to make her comfortable and prepare your self.

the comparable element is happening to my hamster. She s very practically 2 years of age, very skinny, small, and has a tumor. I don t comprehend what to do when you consider that she in basic terms started doing this approximately sort of 20-30 minutes in the past. My final hamster (Ginger) had moist tail and regrettably handed. yet I submit to in concepts the final day of her existence she became heavily respiratory, then she d pass freeze and heavily breathe lower back. She did she for sort of seven-8 hours before she handed. I m sorry to declare this yet I don t think of you're able to do lots, neither can the vet. :c i assume possible desire. :) stable success! <3 xox

mine did too. maybe its just an ageing thing. or lung cancer. make sure they are somewhat eating. and drinking some water. but you may never know what is wrong with them. maybe it is time to say goodbye to the poor thing. it will be hard no doubt about it. but they would rather be in a better place then be in pain. just make sure you keep a close eye on them.

thats sad... i had a hamster it die at 2.. and my other hamster i got after that my cat ate it ...
the point that im getting at is maybe its old (i dont know how long they live thou it depends on the breed) maybe you should take it to a special kind of vet that deals with small pets..

It will probibly die. If it has a lump it has a cancer ' ish/ tumor. ( my hamster got one) It will die in a few day or weeks. Sorry. Theres nuthing you can do. I wouldnt take it to the vet, since it will die even if you do. But you could call and ask a question!
