at the end of EVERY single summer of every single year the price of Gas declines, so how is it that some of you still think its some conspiracy?

Is it just easier to blame a cabal of rich men than modeling the underlying variables that actually create the gas price?

NormGarry: An educated economist would not try to claim a "trend" with only the few years worth of data that you have for support.

Meanwhile I have data stretching back to the 1970's that supports MY POINT.

Looks like you lose, perhaps you should sign up for some extra courses at the community college that you attend, your current class load doesn't seem to be helping your education.

America has been HIDING the true cost of gasoline by subsidizing the national defense budget. Economists know it but they are labeled unpatriotic for speaking out against Bush so the truth is being very well covered.

The cost of gas is falling because of nothing else than the November elections. Gas prices have been slowly escalating ever since Bush declared war on Afghanistan and they wouldn't be coming down now if not for the Republicans fearing a loss of the Senate or Congress.

DURING ELECTION YEARS, STRANGELY THINGS ALLWAYS SEEM TO GET BETTER.

But I also remember the 2004 election when gas prices dropped RIGHT BEFORE THE ELECTIONS. Fast forward to Summer 2005 and gas was 2.70 a gallon right before Hurrican Katrina hit and it rose to $3.50 ($4.00 in some places) where it stayed from Last year till less than 2 months ago. VERY SUSPICIOUS INDEED.

Do you believe everything the rights tell you?

If you weren't so heavy perhaps they could use you as a parrot.

Money is the ultimate corrupter! I hear all these stories from the elderly that gas used to be 10 cents to 19 cents a gallon.

And all these years it has been shooting up. These guys know they can get the most money during summer break due to road trips and the like. Where I live it was almost $4 a gallon once May hit, and by the time school started it was back at $2.30.

I think our fiscal and physical healths would be a TON better for us all if we had done what the majority of Europe has always done -- had high gas prices FROM THE BEGINNING. Us Americans have so much convience that it gets out of control. If we made people walk a few blocks every day instead of riding in their cars for five minutes, then we would all benefit. It would be a hard hit on the economy if we started out like that now as the gov't makes a lot of cash charging as it does.

The decline in gas was rapid and it was not solely related to the end of the summer driving season. Several factors combined to bring the price down. Among them a lighter than predicted hurricane season, oil refineries on the gulf finally recovering from last year's hurricane damage and a drop in per barrel oil prices due to less rhetoric from Iran. The biggest problem with people's belief is that it is an election year. The country is very divided and many people hate the administration. So it is politically convenient for them to blame Mr. Bush and his so called cadre of rich oil friends for the reduction. The fact that this believe is ridiculous doesn't phase them, but just write it off to the fact that the average person doesn't have a clue about how supply and demand works.
