why did the natives want to go west? Are you serious??????
OMG!!!!
they did not WANT to go west.
They were forced to go west.
Please. the idea that the "wanted" to go west is completely insulting.
Have you ever studied or looked in to the trail of tears? It was not the "trail of tears of joy"
Now i will admit that some tribes were nomadic, following th buffalo herds through the seasons, but that is not the same thing. Many many nations and tribes that tried to take a stand and resist "wanting to go west" were wiped out. They are gone.
No, sad to say, you are a product of intense government controlled propaganda if you think the natives "wanted" to go west.
My ancestors did not "want" to end up in "Indian Territory" (Oklahoma) they were driven there by 1. being forced to do so and 2. their desire to survive.
It sickens me to think children are being taught that natives "wanted" to go west. They were happy where they were. they were brutually forced in to it.
this is common knowledge in Oklahoma. Wish the rest of the country would wise up a bit.

Cowboys yes, Native Americans no. Cowboys, although a better term would be settlers wanted new/free land so they went west where the US was less populated. Some came west as a result of the Gold Strike in Californa.
Native Americans supposedly came to America across the Bering Straight (Russia) so they went East not West and I have no idea why

The Native Americans were already here. There were tribes all over the Americas.
Cowboys really also didn't want to go west. They are from the west. Or from anywhere that there are ranches. Cowboys are ranch hands basically.

Only the cowboys wanted to go west. The Native Americans wanted to stay put. The cowboys were in search for land that was rich where they could build homes, grow crops and raise cattle etc. They also were looking for precious minerals (ie. gold).

Land! Free land! Gold and more Free Gold! Silver too! Til Gov't took over with fees and taxes.
Probably depended on the season too. Which plants ripe to eat from.
Maybe to see in their minds eye back then, the edge of the world. Or maybe they heard of an Ocean.
Native Americans probably moved about during season or forced to by the US Government to Tribal Deeded Lands.
