I asked, “Why are we building a freedom tower”, in a previous question. One woman replied: There are 1000’s of buildings that "they" could knock over. Maybe we should stop building buildings. Terrorists make car bombs. Maybe we should stop driving cars. She was suggesting that I thought we should hide. I wasn't.

Let’s try this again. The Twin Towers were probably chosen because they were the “most recognizable” feature in the “most popular” U.S. city. They were huge and probably easily hit by an airplane. I would have chosen them. Why hit a townhouse, when you can ruin an icon…More is well…more, you know?

Building the freedom tower seems like “provoking” to me. It seems like unnecessary arrogance. We are creating, yet another, huge target. The Freedom Tower is supposed to be even larger. A beacon screaming, “Come hit me…”

We wonder why certain groups hate us. Part of it is jealousy, ignorance, and prejudice. Part of it, is because we ask for it. Am I wrong?

Yes sir, you proved my point. The pentagon, If I am not mistaken, is still the largest man made structure...or at least one of the largest. I would have chosen that one too. The White house is an "icon" of America, is it not? That's what I thought...

I think that America has a really bad habit of showing off. It is how we get ourselves in trouble. I think that if we werent so arrogant, we would have known that by ticking other countries off, they would try some sort of retaliation. In other words, we should have known that something like 9/11 would happen. But, we think "how in the heck do they have the right to do that to US?!?!?!?!?!? The thing is, we do that kind of thing to other countries all the time. We call it war, or the quest to end terrorism or operation Iraqi freedom or whatever. Either way, killing innocent people for one reason or another is still killing innocent people.
I think that in our own american way, we DO ask for what we get. We just think that they have no right to say or do what they want in retaliation. So, I think it is stupid to build the freedom tower because all it is is a lame attempt to say "haha you cant stop america!" and to put a lot more people's lives in danger. 9/11 sould have knocked america down a peg or two, and we should have learned a lesson from it. That we are not as "all-powerful" as we are portrayed to be.

They also targeted the pentagon and the white house/capitol building, even though they were not the largest or in the most populous american city. So your premise is wrong.

We're building the freedom tower as a show of defiance, and because the largest building in the country should be in New York City, the financial capital of the world.

You are correct that we ask for it, however we ask for it not with what we do here in the US, but with what our tax dollars support overseas. I don't want to get into a foreign policy debate, but suffice to say that our unilateral support for Israel is a large part of the reason we were attacked on 9/11.., it had nothing to do with having a pair of tall buildings next to each other (neither of which was the tallest building in the country or the world).

Addendum: The pentagon was a symbolic target more than anything else. It is the C&C center of the US military, it would have been hit regardless of its size or which city it was in. And by the way, even if we don't build a freedom tower, there will still be a "tallest building in america" for enemies to target.

The only way all this stuff is going to stop and the USA get back to the way it was is for an event to happen that is much worse than 911.

It needs to be a natural event that kills Thousands or Millions in the USA or it could be a man made event that is caused by a citizen/s of the USA.

Then the USA will not be looking to blame other countries or people from other countries for the problems in the USA.

Right now 911 has given the current Administration something to give them a political reason for existing.

I am pissed 911 happened because it allowed our leaders to make the USA a country that now attacks other countries BEFORE they attack us on our soil.

The reason I am pissed is I agree with what they are doing in IRAQ but I just wish it wasn't done under the reason from 911 because it makes the people that did 911 win because they changed our country.

A big event in the USA such as a Tsunami or Earthquake or Radiation Accident would bring everyone back to their senses and give the USA a coming together event that isn't based on blaming another country or group of people outside of the USA.

I am Canadian, but perhaps it is a declaration that you are still standing... that they hurt you but didn't knock you down forever.

Aren't you American's fiercly pround of their independence? Aren't you guys big on your expressions and symbols of that independence and freedom?

I believe you should be less aroggant and self centered and more appreciative of the freedoms you have, however, there is nothing wrong with making a memorial to those that died adn a statement that you were hurt but not destroyed by what happened on 9-11.

You shouldn't have to worry about provoking some psychos and live in fear.

I guess the Twin Towers became sort of like a religious icon for people. It would be like a mosque or catheral being demolished and wanting to rebuild it on the site.

If NYC is in demand of office space, I guess it would make sense to build on that spot. As far as someone intentional flying into buildings is concerned, there are still tall buildings to fly into. So, one or two more shouldn't tempt a person already intent on flying into a building.

I think it is a good idea. It shows that we aren't scared of terrorism. It also shows that we aren't going to let them change our way of living. We might be a jealous, ignorant, and prejudice nation, but the worst thing we can do is let the terrorist control the way we live. This is why i am also against things like the patriot act. But you bring up a good point that it will be a target.

The terrorists have already won. Think about it - we have changed our whole way of life because of them. If we had gone on with our daily routine they would be the losers. Still go after them (don't get me wrong) but go on with life as usual.

Terrorism is not a religious phenomenon but an economic one. Islam is merely a vehicle to accomplish the terrorist acts. We have everything and most third-world folks have nothing - and we flaunt it in thier face. No wonder the terrorists are po'd at us. Having said this, terrorism is the WRONG way to achieve economic parity.

If the terrorist are going to strike again then it doesn't matter if we build or not. So let's stop living. Let's stop building anything.
That kind of mentality is what they like. The "Let's just give up attitude".
The reason we build is two fold. One to remember those who have fallen and to make a statement to the terrorist "We are not going to break".
