depends on what course and the kind of student you are...

U.P. - for those with idealistic minds (preferably for law students)
De LaSalle Univ - for those who tend to swing either critical or biased...
Ateneo - those who are lenient in reasoning (highly principled)
UST - still the best in medical studies
STI - still the best for computer studies

if you're in financial dilemma, state universities may do such as PUP, TUP, CCP, etc....

University of the Philippines if you like a wholistic view of the Philippine society, the radical and the apathetic, the weathy and the poor, etc. Studying here and at the same time living in one of their dormitories can teach you a lot, about people, about resourcefulness, about tolerance and about being friends with people even when you don't agree with their beliefs. UP can make you learn about life in general, in addition to what is taught in the classroom. But before studying here, you must have your principles all set because though the diversity is beautiful, it can also cause confusion in your morals. No Values/Religion/Morality classes here... You define who you are..

I can't vouch much for other schools but if you're just after academic learning, Ateneo de Manila, De LaSalle and UST are not inferior to UP in many aspects.

There's no question that UP is one of the best school in the Philippines. But, with what they have done to Gen. Esperon (they threw eggs on him after he was invited as guest by the Political Science Students) they forgot to teach their student the most important thing " Respect to others".

Around ten thousand apply as freshman each year, and only around 10% or less get accepted.
