I paid a bill by check (online bill payment)... they claimed they never received it.

I put a stop payment on the check via my bank. the bank put the money back onto my account, but the bill was paid and now I have a credit balance. so, if they find the error... can they reverse it and charge me?? never had a billing error in my favor before!

they claimed they never received it you stopped payment. leave that money in your account in case they come for it. it will be there.if not then your lucky day. you did not steal anything. i had a bank error where $400. was taken out of my acct years ago. i never got it back.so let time pass and wait it out.thanks. PS. people need to pay attention to their jobs. we all make mistakes maybe this one in your favor.

It might take a while, but the company will probably realize you stopped the payment and re-charge you.

My wife was notified a few months ago by EdFinancial that they failed to add one of her student loans to her account 3 years ago! And of course they want the money now even though her loans had been paid off for a year.

I'd say you do risk late fees and such depending on when the error is caught. Trust me, they will likely find it. Mistakes happen, but they have to balance their books so it will likeley be caught. Sometimes it takes a week or so when you've stopped payment for it to be returned to the place. You'll be getting a call or letter soon I imagine.

you received services. you paid for services. error made and money given back to you. you have NOT paid for the services and you should return the money accordingly. just because an error was made doesnt mean the debt is erased.

Aboslutely, they can reverse that, and they may even charge you a late fee. Do the right thing and tell them.

Enjoy the moment. They will find out unless they are a mom and pop operation.

yes they can. you still got the service they provided. they just got confused on the payment.

It's best to be honest, tell the company of their mistake. You wouldn't want this back firing on you.
