One place is near the top of Santiago Peak and in Silverado Canyon in the Santa Ana Mountains. There is a rock unit called the Santiago Peak Volcanics that formed during the Mesozoic.

In the hills east of Orange, you can find younger volcanic rocks.
The El Modeno Volcanics (basalt and andesite) volcanic rocks "overlie and are interstratified with fossiliferous sedimentary rocks of middle Miocene (Luisian) age and are overlain by fossiliferous sedimentary rocks of upper middle Miocene (lower Mohnian) age (Yerkes, 1957; Smith, 1960; Schoellhamer and others, 1981; T.H.
