Yes, I believe there is a difference. English sizes are 1.5 bigger than American sizes.

I find that UK sizes are smaller than American sizing. For instance a ladies size UK 12 fits like an American 10.

A medium is a medium wherever you go. The only differnce is between actually numbered sizes in women's clothing, in which case there is a difference of two sizes, ie a UK size 12 is a US size 8 and so fourth. HTH : )
