The Boat....The boat..what's the name of the boat? Very informative, though, Vince. Just not what I was looking for.

I keep waiting to see this commercial on TV, since my tv screen is bigger than my computer screen, but.. not so far. It aired during last week's episode of Lost, I guess, but I missed it.

GO here to screen this and three other claymation commercials created by a dude named Mark Gustafson for an outfit called LAIKA, for B&J ice creams. (Cherry Garcia, Chubby Hubby and Half Baked) Haven't tried the ice cream, but the Half Baked commercial has to be my favorite. (uhhhh...huh huh huh.)

As for the name of the boat, from what I can see on the screen, it looks like Los Amigos, which I can only guess relates to the long time friendship and biz relationship between Ben and Jerry....???
Or maybe the timeless, undying friendship between Jerry's kids (Garcia, not Lewis) and their grandchildren, today's Phish phans. When will B&J create an icecream for Bob Weir, anyway?

Then again, it could be a reference to the commercial creator's favorite Mexican restaurant, or his favorite movie, starring Chevy Chase, Martin Short and Steve Martin. (of course that's if it says Three Amigos, not Los Amigos.)

BTW.. Phish isn't, in any respect, a "tribute" band. They play their own original music. They may do a cover here and there, like gDead covering a Dylan song here and there, but they're their own Phish. They have a gazillion albums out, dating back to 1988.. many of the albums are live shows. Like the 'Dead, they have always encouraged fans to bootleg and trade their shows, and there's a pretty huge fan base doing this. Their shows do a pretty decent job of emulating the magic, the pageantry, the... indescribable, cacophonic, mind expanding production of the Dead's shows... (or used to, at least.. haven't checked in lately)
With lights, balloons, colorful fans, trampolines and countless other fabulous props and gimmicks. More info than you need, but hey.. at least I referenced the boat.

"if you have to ask, go see a show. If you still don't get it, you'll never know.

OK, so I saw the commercial last night, and it appears that the name on the boat is LAS AMIGOS, which really doesn't make sense, because "las" is a feminine article, while amigos is a masculine word... it should be Los Amigos, or Las Amigas... so there must be an obscure reason for the name?

Phish refers to the band "Phish," which is a popular tribute band, playing music in the style of the "Greatful Dead."

One of Ben and Jerry's most popular ice cream flavors was "Cherry Garcia" which was named after the Greatful Dead's lead guitarist, the late Jerry Garcia.

Many of the Greatful Deads fans used to tour the county, following their favorite band. These are the folks known as "Dead Heads." When the band "Phish" lovingly recreated the original band's music, many of the Dead Heads began following the tour schedule of Phish

I think Ben and Jerry, a couple of old hippies who've made good, wish to continue the tribute tradition. They have held fast to much of the "Hippy" ethic, for instance, by insisting on only natural food stuff ingredients in thier products.
