I do have to get the muffler fixed, do I need to worry about anything else or if I can get away with something.

The test it designed to make sure you car is fit for the road, so all bells and whistles should be operating.
Timing belt- check
Brakes - check
Spark Plugs- check
Battery-check
Engine Nox-check
Shocks-check
Exhaust pipes-check
Gasket-check
Not everything will gaureentee a failure, if you have not had some maintenance done, MAJOR stuff must work properly in order to past.
But good news, if you fail one test, you can come back for one more for free.

Go to Wal-mart and get a bottle of "Guaranteed to Pass" and use it exactly as the directions say and you will pass. I have used it and it does very well.
If your Wal-mart doesn't have it go to one of the auto parts houses they should have it or can get it for you.
