NEW YORK - A plane crash has been reported on Manhattan's Upper East Side<<
Why is it that the media insists on toying with our emotions with these bogus and embellished stories and headlines..It also amazes me how the public is clinching on to the hopes of something tragic happening ..just look at all of the questions posted about this..

my heart go out to any victims that may have been involved but come on..I KNOW WE LIVE IN SCARY TIMES BUT LETS NOT OVER REACT!

There are so many answers. I agree, logically.
Let's talk about reality, and neuropsychology.
The brain (and body) releases many nasty, uncomfortable chemicals during stress.
Then, soothing chemicals are relased to counteract them.
These soothing chemicals are addicitive, in the more or less the same way that man-made drugs are.
The greater the stress, the greater the amount of soothing, addictive chemicals are released.
It is postulated that this is the reason for Veterans of Foreign Wars having the violent reactions of PSTD (post-traumatic stress disorder), even at only the sound of a nail gun.

Stress becomes addicting.

The only way some people can combat the irrational reaction of giving into terror and media hype, is to know why we respond that way in the first place. Hopefully, some of us just know how to meditate and focus.

Then we master our bodies as well as our minds.

P.S.
The part of the brain that is most closely associated with emotions is the mid-brain, common to all mammals. We humans have a forebrain, that can usually control emotions. However, when 20% or more of a situation matches a traumatic event, the midbrain kicks in faster than the forebrain can process the event. The loop from experience to logic is literally short-circuited, and an emotional response is automatic.
The 20%, by the way, can be relatively unrelated to the meaning of the event. Walking down the same street you were on when you heard the news, or smelling the same cologne that your co-worker was wearing when you watched the breaking news of 9/11, might be enough to trigger the memory and fear.

If Bin Laden thinks he won then why is he still fighting?

Bin Laden's goal is to get all western influences whether it be western businesses, military or culture out of the Middle East so he can then start a massive civil war and create a new Islamic Empire stretching from African to Asia then once it is secure and has it's own army his dream (he'd be dead by then) would be for that empire to take over Europe and then eventually the US.

He's said so and his followers seek the same thing. This new Islamic Empire feeling goes back to the 1920's after the Ottoman Empire fell and the Middle East became a wasteland then Europeans invented the car and everything changed. Western corporations began drilling in the Middle East and found oil but the place still was desolate until Israel was reborn and became the wealthiest and most industrious nation in the Middle East despite the fact they produce NO oil.

During the 1920's however just after WW1 and the fall of the Ottomans the Middle East became swamped in western ways such as western clothes, dance and the very idea that women actually enjoyed sex just to name a few ideas which were seen as decadent by the religious leaders at the time. It was around this time that a few Muslims saw their way of life as threatened and started groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood which was the seed for todays Islamic Extremist groups.

The only thing Bin Laden has won is more suffering for Muslims.

Yes. People have been reported to scream and cry and run out of the house, during a thunderstorm, moreso now than prior to the incidents that occured on 09-11-01. Yes, he won and he said that America would live in fear and we do (at least some of us do) Do you believe that one person stopped millions from flying ever again? So silly.

Bin Laden willhave considered himself to have won when American Interests leave Saudi Arabia. He is a long way from that.

I think that the media forces people to over-react. It's sensationalism and it sells advertising. There's lots of fire, lots of firemen, lots of cops....etc. and don't forget there are a never ending line of talking heads that that keep referring to 9/11.......
I feel bad for the people in and around the crash, but, I'm personally not going to feel terrorized about anything......

I think it's understandable to overreact to an initial report that says "Plane crashes into building in NYC."

I think it's natural to be concerned and to get our guard up whenever something even vaguely familiar to 9/11 occurs.

"Hysterical Overreaction"? We are not "eager" to be terrorized. You obviously are not from NY, and if you are, you should be ashamed of yourself.
