Chlamydia is caused by a bacterium called Chlamydia trachomatis. Chlamydia infects the neck of the womb (cervix) in women and the tube inside the penis (urethra) in men. Sometimes it can infect the throat and anus of either sex.

If left untreated, chlamydia can cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women, which can lead to chronic pain and infertility (the inability to get pregnant).

Symptoms in women
Women may have no signs or symptoms with chlamydia. If symptoms are present, they may include:
An unusual vaginal fluid (discharge)
A burning sensation when urinating
Deep pain during vaginal sex
Vaginal bleeding after sex.

If detected early, chlamydia can be treated with a single dose of antibiotic. Complicated chlamydial infections and pelvic inflammatory disease in women may need longer courses of antibiotics. Partners of people with chlamydia also need to be treated as they may be infected. If your partner is not treated, you can get re-infected.

it does not cause cancer but can cause severe infection, infertility and ectopic pregnancy. chlamydia has a tendency to destroy the fallopian tubes if left untreated. many women have it with no symptoms. most young women are checked for it yearly. it is impossible to say how much damage will be done in a given time period as every person is different. if you have it, get it treated asap, and notify all of your partners to get treated also

It can cause first bladder infections and can even lead to cancer. It just depends on how severly you have it as to how soon it will affect you. if you suspect you have it, go to your doctor, they can give you meds to clear it up. If you think you might have it, don't spread it to any partners, and be sure and let your former partners know you have it so they can get it taken care of. STDs are not something to treat lightly.

It can cause cancer, cause u to be sterile. And some will most do not show symptoms. If you are a minor, you can still go to your local ymca and get checked out and get treatment without letting a parent know. But do not go untreated!
