I think nuclear power is good when used correctly, such as to heat your microwave. But when it leaks from a power plant it can be deadly.

Nuclear power can be broken into two different catagories, fission and fusion.

Fission, what we current use, is an efficient means of generating electricity by generating heat, converting it to steam and running steam driven turbines to create electricity. The heavy water that's created in the process is not exactly healthy. And poor design or lack of safety mechanisms could cause meltdowns. We have learned from past mistakes, so hopefully this gets less risky with time.

Fusion hasn't been able to get sustained yet. But there is a project (ITER) that is a cooperative between 6 countries (Japan, Korea, USA, Russia, France, Germany) that are going to build the first working model (hopefully it will work!). It will produce 100 times the energy and produce 10 times less radioactive by products compared to Fission. And the fuel is a heavy water molecule found in seawater.

While Solar, Wind and Wave generators have their place to help us get off coal, they still have an impact on the environment (like wind sails killing birds). And to have a constant form of energy like Fusion will be able to keep all of us with cheap power regardless of wind, sun or waves.

I think it is a good idea as it pollutes the atmosphere far less than burning fossil fuel.
It must also be considered that burning coal produces and distributes MORE radioactive material than a nuclear plant does.
Wind turbines are a sop to the green electorate. They takes years to pay back the carbon debt of their construction and they cannot be relied on as the wind does not always blow at the 'correct' speed. Solar panels are much the same regarding carbon debt and do not produce much power. Only water turbines or tidal barriers are sensible but we have few places with enough water in the UK.
The worry is the clots who operate one - Chernobyl - and the remote possibility of terrorist action but it would take one heck of a bomb to rupture the containment.

Bad its kind of like getting a loan then expecting your children or grandchildren to pay the loan off leaving them skint. Same with nuclear power the short term use of the site and materials opposed the thousands of years waiting to the site and the waste product to be safe for any living thing to survive near it. But hey who cares about the future as long as u got the energy to make a cup of tea to think about it. And nuclear power dosent create the electricity all it does is turn water in to steam to turn the turbines. It is the magnets in the turbine that creates the electricity.

Its the most practical alternative when our Planet's natural fossil fuels run out. Although still in its infancy Nuclear Power is the next ready available source capable of meeting the worlds demand for Power. With further research and investment it
should provide all our future needs safely and efficiently.
So Yes it is a good choice, when used correctly and responsibly.

Like everything else, it depends on who's using it and how.

Most nations that safely employ nuclear power plants for energy purposes, it's generally a good thing. For a certifiable psychopath like Kim Jong-il or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to have control of anything nuclear is clearly a very bad thing.

Nuclear is OK if they could make it actually safe. The problem is that there is always some pollution, and the half-life of that pollution is hundreds of thousands of years, so it doesn't just go away. The trouble with wind turbines is that they kill. Birds just get smashed-up by them. There is research into avoiding this, like arranging them to be out of normal flightpaths, but different species fly at different characteristic heights, so it's tricky. Damming somewhere like the Severn estuary, to build a hydro-electric scheme is OK in principle, but it would destroy irreplaceable habitat. Gas burns cleanly, but there's only so much of it, and it still produces greenhouse gases. Tide power, if intelligently done, could be a go-er. Or we could just walk everywhere and eat salad in the dark. It's a tough problem.

Nuclear power, for me, is too dangerous. There have some rather large explosions at nuclear power plants. I think that eventually scientists will perfect solar, hydroelectric, and wind power. These, I hope, will replace our current sources of power.

I personally think it is a good thing, I also think it is the only current viable alternative to fossil fuels. Renewable sources do have their place, but at this moment in time they are simply not capable of producing sufficient amounts of electricity for the worlds rising requirements.

There is no difference in the power produced.

But the production facility and the surroundings do suffer by radiation and the nuclear waste disposal is another issue.

We could manage them easily if we work on it.
