If you have a tri-band phone it will work in Europe. Those who said theirs must have cheap phones.
However, it will be very expensive. If you intend to make a lot of calls buy a phone over here. You can get pay as you go ones for £30 including £10 air time.

It depends on your provider. If they have a European roaming option you should be ok. T-mobile in particular is fine. So call them and check but be warned - it is very expensive. Same when I come to USA and pay £1 ($1.75) for any call irrespective of length of call. Texts also cost the same. The suggestion to purchase what we call pay-as-you go sim cards is a good idea. If you take your phone and have your numbers saved to the phone you will be able to use it just like your regular sim card. I recommend Virgin or Orange. You can purchase these sim cards in most newsagents - you will see a sign outside advertising.
You might want to think about getting an Oyster card too for travel in London. It is the very cheapest way. You can buy one at the Undergroiund at the airport.
Have a great trip!

Check with your service provider.
T-Mobile is the only company that operates both in the states and the UK. You can always get a sim card. I keep a sim card handy whenever my stateside friends come to London.

If you have a GSM phone, then it will work (there are a number of GSM networks in the US) If it is a CDMA phone it won't work.
If you do have a GSM phone, then it will need to be tri-band (which it almost certainly will be)

no your cell will not work over there. Call your porvider and they will have a phone that you can purchase and it will work over there. Just put you sim card in and it will work on their system but not our's...different frequencies.

I can't see why it wouldn't work. Surely your service provider offers a roaming facility? One of our many networks should work for you.
