the reason why it takes 15-20 minutes to get a prescription filled? Monday, I go into my local Albertsons for a prescription. No one in line, no one waiting for pickup, no one waiting for drop off, 2 people behind the counter....we'll have it ready in 20 minutes. What?

yes, i have been through that. One reason could be if they are on the phone with other customers.... the main reason is "if they weren't talking to each other, they could have had the prescription filled in 5 minutes!"

Because "20 minutes" is a good average time to expect for filling a prescription, regadless of how busy the pharmacy is - they say that to everyone, every time - so they won't have to think about how long it will actually take, and so they won't tell you it will be done in 5 minutes, get behind schedule, and disappoint their customer - this is the same reason a mail-order service will tell you to expect delivery in 6 to 8 weeks, and the package arrives 4 days later - you'd rather be surprised when it comes early than angry when it comes late, right?
