I like ham, sweet potatoes, collard greens and cornbread too. Why can't we call it southern cooking instead of "Soul Food" or is that another way the we shall be divided. If I cook it or if you cook it it's still the same meal...

I bet you thought i was going to bring up black history month, BET, Ms Black America..etc..as a truly colorblind person that judges per MLK's doctrine by the content of ones character and not the color of their skin I will break bread with anyone....now where is that oxetail gravy recipie of my grandma's?

I've actually heard it both ways... "southern cooking" and "soul food". For one... I don't really know the color of the person who named the food. If they were black or white or whatever. So, I can't really speak on that. But, as a black person... I've never thought "soul food" was called that because of someone's skin color. I believe the "soul" in soul food is meant to represent the actual soul of a person. Regardless to what the color. And I think they called it that because usually families would get together and have dinner. Usually Sunday dinners. You know, family time, that warm fuzzy feeling time, supposed to be good for the soul. Blah, blah, blah. So, you too can make "soul food" all you have to do is call it that.

But... to answer your actual question... no... I don't think its wrong. As long as its not in a superialistic kind of way. I see absolutely nothing wrong with having pride for who you are. I'm proud to be black, I love black things, black people, etc... but I dont' think I'm any better than anyone else.

CBASS- in response to your "send them back" comment... thats pretty idiotic... being that white people weren't the original people in America. So, unless you plan on going back to Europe... shut up!
