Louis XVI was guillotined by Charles-Henri Sanson (the hereditary executioner at the time) in the Place de Louis XV in Paris on January 21 1793, the death sentance having been passed the day before. The first link below is to an eyewitness account of that event.

As the revolution proceeded, the statue of Louis XV was torn down at that location and it was renamed the Place de la Révolution. Most of the executions occurred in this location... as many as 1300 in a single month. It now goes by the more modest name of Place de la Concorde.

On October 19 of the same year (reportedly at 12:15 in the afternoon), Maria Antonia Josefa Joanna von Habsburg-Lothringen (usually referred to as just Marie Antoinette) was no exception. She was not only beheaded, but stripped naked first, and then her head was exhibited to the cheering crowd.
