I got my rook pierced one year ago. I've been cleaning it daily and it is not swollen, red, or bleeding. The past week or so, my ear has been sore. I'm wondering if it could be an infection? Or, perhaps I'm just sleeping on it improperly and it is getting sore. What do you think?

cartilage piercings take forever to heal, so it is possible that you could have an infection one year after the piercing was done. you may have also ripped it a little while sleeping. i recommend you clean it four or five times a day with bactine and dont sleep on it until its better. never use bactine on a fresh piercing, but you say youve had it a year so it should be okay to use stronger antiseptics now. you can clean it with peroxide or bactine, but dont use alcohol. if it is infected, you will notice a lot of crust around the holes and you may see a little pus. just keep it clean and go easy on it, you should be fine in a couple of weeks.

Keep cleaning it and if it still hurts then go back to where you got it pierced and ask.

i would consider taking it out for a day just to let it settle down. try a different earring and that may help to if you dont change it frequently.
