the first ultrasound is usually done between 16 and 20 weeks, but this depends on your age, and your family history, sometimes they will be done earlier if there are known medical issues in your families history or if you are over the age of 30.

I got a really quick ultrasound at 11.5 weeks because they could not pick up the heartbeat with the doppler so they wanted to be sure all was well, otherwise I would not have gotten one until 18-20 weeks whick is next week. Unless you are having a difficult pregnancy it is not really necessary more than that plus I think at some point insurance starts giving a hassle.

Every doctor is different on when they schedule the ultrasound. Some will do one on the first visit others only do one at about 20 weeks. I had one at 12 week because I was doing a screening test.

Most Doctors won't even see you until you have missed two periods. Then it depends on the doctor when you get the ultrasound. I got mine the first appointment.

Around 20 wks,my Daughter just had a baby 3 months ago,and we wanted to know the gender to prepare for this one(first one was a boy)She went to one of those places in the Mall that gives you 3D pictures of the baby as well as a CD for around $80,we did this in Feb,but they said she was a little early and needed to come back when she was 20 wks to be sure. She went back at 20 wks,and it was a GIRL!!!! Now we have one of each, but to answer your question, she also asked her Dr,and he said 20wks,but when I was pregnant with the twins,I found out at 12 wks, that I was having twins,so depends on the circumstances,I guess.

That depends on your condition. You can go as early as 7 or 8 wks, but I'd wait until 10 or 12 if everything's ok. You can't determine the sex until about 20 wks.

My doctor had me go early (about 10 weeks) with one pregnancy because I have irregular periods and they wanted to be sure of the dates. This time I was in at 6 weeks because I had some bleeding. I was able to see the heartbeat. You are supposed to be able to see it 6 weeks, but sometimes as early as 4.

Everyone I know went at 8-11 weeks and then again at 18-22 weeks. If you have a Dr who doesnt care or crappy insurance you may not get the first one.

We were lucky to have one at 10 weeks, it was the coolest thing!

We're at 13.5 weeks now and my fingers are crossed that we can have another one tomorrow.

If all else fails, don't be afraid to ask. The worst thing they can say is no. It might be just a quick peek that you end up with, but even a quick peek is better than nothing :-)
