House was built in the 1920's and the seperate garage was added shortly thereafter. Not exactly sure when though. I often see birds inside the garage pecking at the floor. They have managed to do some damage to the floor over the years. ( I have only been here about a year,) I have gone out there, scared them away and looked for bugs or ants but I see nothing. Could the old cement have something in it that birds like??

I will add: They are not getting in when it is secure, just when I leave the garage door open.

Put some bird grit out for them in the drive way. Birds need calcium and they also need small stones in their crops ( a muscular bag in their throat before their stomach) to grind up food because they have no teeth. They are likely getting both out of your garage floor.
Yes they are eating your garage floor.
The damage might be from age weather and road salt off of the car and they might just be pecking up the loose bits. OK

Yes, the floor is just what they want.... they are getting lime from your concrete. I doubt they have damaged the floor but more likely the floor has begun to break down and the birds are taking advantage of that.

They are looking for bugs. You may have to animal proof the garage so they cannot enter.
