I have, at some point, loved David Lee Roth because I seem to have a *lot* of his records. Having said that, it's Van Halen that really get me going now. I saw Van Halen in '94 (with Sammy Hagar) and they ROCKED! And my friend, a grown man of 20-something, was reduced to tears, he was so moved. That's rock 'n' roll.

In what way? Selling records? Getting the band popular? I'd say both were as equal in significance.
They both revolutionized the roles in which they played and how a rock band should act.
Roth had charisma and performed how a front-man should perform; getting the audience involved and having lots of energy.
Eddie (let's face it, we're not talking about Alex here) created a new style of playing guitar and wrote some amazing catchy songs and riffs.
Without each other, the band never would have been what they are today. Today is a good example. What is Roth and VH doing these days? Not a whole lot of anything, besides sucking up royalties. Oh yeah, and signing bluegrass (good gig Roth).

I only think of Van Halen with David Lee Roth like they were in the late 70's and 80's. No Van Hagar for me.

Van Halen was here before David Lee and are still here. His career was at it's peak being the lead singer of the band. I do admit, their best music was made with him. It rocked!

David Lee Roth is a natural showman. He made the great music entertaining. His unique vocalizations and charming sense of humor came across in the music as well as on stage. Eddie was the master of the sound. He oozed the creative blood of the band. The guys fit together so well. Eddie was the blood and Dave was the heart. Some of my fondest memories are of my friends and i getting together and pretending to play their first album in my living room.Air guitars rule!

I don't. Van Halen wouldn't have rocked without Eddie Van Halen.

Van Halen is more significant than him because without Van Halen he would not be [probably] as famous as he is.

Neither. Random fact though my step mother does look exactly like David Lee Roth. God, I wish I could post a picture of her.
